Halifax Ladies V Oldham Ladies
Halifax Ladies win 25 - 14
In a keenly fought match, Halifax brought home the victory.
After just losing out in a tight game to Oldham in May, Halifax Ladies were looking forward to their next encounter. They started strongly and after holding Oldham in their half were rewarded with their first try from Abbott - Hynes. But a lapse in concentration allowed Oldham to break the line twice with trys for North and Lindley, each converted by Hughes and going into half time the score stood 5 - 14.
Into the second half Halifax showed great composure, found their determination and regrouped. Nerves settled as they began to play to their patterns. A strong partnership between Tattersfield and Clough developed and Jones was to be found at every ruck. Downs moved to the wing and was rewarded with her first ever try; Davison was a force to be reckoned with in the centres and Armstrong and Tattersfield hit the line again and again. A powerful second half for the Ladies ensured their efforts were rewarded with further trys for Thompson, Davison and Cochrane. The final score, 25 - 14.
A fantastic effort was put in by both teams and the match was a great example of Women's Rugby. Future matches are planned with Oldham later in the year as they continue to develop and move towards entering the leagues. Although they only formed this year they are no push over. We wish them all the best and will follow their progress with interest.
As the Ladies move towards their upcoming season in the newly created National Challenge North East 1, all the signs are good. A number of new players have joined in the club this year, a mixture of experience and new to rugby, and the positive feeling in the club is contagious.
