Halifax RUFC was founded in 1919 and has an enriched history holding the most wins in the Yorkshire Challenge Cup, Powergen Intermediate Cup winners at Twickenham and competing within the National Leagues for numerous years. The club now compete in Yorkshire Division 4 following promotion and relegation in consecutive years in 2014-2016 and with a new aspiring coaching team are desperate to regain their Yorkshire Division 3 playing status.

This role would ideally suit an ambitious coach who is looking for a stepping stone to drive a club with a vision of playing Yorkshire 3 rugby union. We are currently seeking a Backs Coach who can work alongside our Head Coach and provide the support, knowledge, enthusiasm and capability to mould our talented players into a team capable of progressing into Yorkshire 3.

We are looking for someone who can bring experience from either having played at a greater level, or someone with solid senior coaching experience. Applicants seeking an initial Player/Coach role would be especially welcome.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver senior rugby coaching activity alongside a team of senior coaches.
  • Attend all/most 1st XV matches, providing team warm-up and strategic decision-making during fixtures.
  • Assist and on occasions, run training sessions Tuesday and Thursday evenings for all senior club players.
  • Be able to deliver personal, unit and team training sessions.
  • Deliver and support our culture of development focused, supportive behaviors and discovery/game-based delivery in order to drive an attractive style of rugby.
  • Assist with player recruitment and retention.
  • Give advice and direction to all individual players to help improve their overall game.
  • Improve seasonal training attendance, make it enjoyable, challenging and beneficial to all.

The Candidate

  • Preferable but not essential, an accredited RFU Level 2 Coach.
  • Demonstrate levels of achievement within the coaching/playing sector at similar/higher levels than that at which the club currently stands.
  • Able to implement unit plays that are coherent with the team’s strengths and their pre-defined game plan.
  • Have strong contacts amongst players within the area.
  • A strong and influential character who is self-motivated with a desire to make themselves and the club successful.
  • An effective communicator and leader who is inclusive of all teams and embodies the ethos of a one club mentality.
  • Player Centred – able to get the best out of individuals and create an environment for them to succeed.
  • High levels of integrity and credibility with the ability to develop working relationships both internally and externally.
  • A coach who is willing to learn to be challenged and challenge their peers.
  • Potentially an individual who would like to have a player coach role.
